Language of Love Sermon Series
Description
God is love, and the language of God is love. So, it should be no surprise that the scriptures have a lot to say about love! As we have many different English words for good, such as wonderful, fantastic, excellent, agreeable, positive, etc., the scriptures also use different Greek words for love. There is eros, romantic love between husband and wife; storge, familial love between family members; phileo, platonic love between friends; and agape, unconditional love independent of circumstance or relationship status. As the New Testament authors describe Christ’s love for us, they utilize this varying vocabulary to give a nuanced account of our relation to God. A better understanding of these different kinds of love not only enriches our reading of the scriptures, but helps us to more clearly proclaim the Gospel: God loves us so much that he sent his beloved son to give us life in his name and to share in his love!
