Training with Titus Sermon Series
Description
Training with Titus: The New Year offers a natural opportunity for us to evaluate the previous year and implement new habits and disciplines to help better direct us towards our goals for the upcoming year. As we do so, we encourage you to join us in this sermon series, “Training with Titus”, where we will be working on how the grace and salvation of Jesus Christ encourages us to live godly lives. Specifically, we’ll be exploring how the grace of Jesus points us towards godly leadership, self-discipline, virtuous living, and embodying the Gospel so that our good deeds point towards the God who gave His all for us.

Forgiveness with Philemon: While we live in community in this world, there are many times where due to our own sinful nature we have deeply wronged someone else, or we ourselves have been deeply hurt or wronged. And we’re generally taught growing up that in these moments, we should say “I’m sorry” or “it’s okay”. But oftentimes with these wounds, it’s not okay, and a single “I’m sorry” is not enough to heal those wounds. And these wounds if left untouched will fester with feelings of shame and guilt, anger and hatred, leading to deep-seated loathing and potentially desires for revenge. In Philemon, we will see an example of an extreme wrong done to Philemon by Onesimus. But instead of revenge or hatred, Paul calls Philemon to forgiveness. And rather than just an “I’m sorry”, true forgiveness is a difficult, ongoing process to both ask for forgiveness for the times we’ve wronged others, but also a really hard process to forgive those that have wounded us.
